The Ottawa Business Journal from Ontario, Canada reports that N-Able has joined the System Center Alliance. The System Center Alliance is made up of Microsoft Partners, and specifically ISV’s who have technologies which are for and integrate with the System Center Suite of Products. N-Able are different in that they have signed an agreement with MS to integrate their software with the future versions of MS’s System Center Products.
The integration of third parties into System Center has had a checkered history. Some examples which spring to mind are ABC Software and their abortive Software Metering Solution for SMS 2.0, Crystal Reports and their horrific reporting for SMS 2.0 and of course the long running feud with Wise software in regards to SMS Installer.

Sphere: Related ContentIt’s been kind of quiet here lately. Since leaving Dimension Data, I’ve been working on a new product called Community Engine. We’re producing a leading edge, semantic web application, with all the bells and whistles of Silverlight, Active Directory and a slew of other technologies which will produce probably the coolest web platform since apache….
We hit beta 1 last week and are currently deep in issue management driving to beta 2.
We’re running a significant web farm at a co-location facility, performing management with System Center Operations Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager and a ton of powershell and other features.
It’s a tough job; I’m managing a team of devs as lead architect, a bunch of UI designers and a full featured operations team.
I’ve got a little more time now and will post updates as I get them…
| BrianMadden.com reports a piece of news from the softgrid team’s blog about a set of forthcoming Webcasts. The first one is on Wednesday this week, and it’s all about System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and Service Pack 1. Even if you haven’t yet deployed ConfigMgr (and you should), these Webcasts are a valuable use of a short amount of time…. I remember the day we had to read manuals….. <grin> |

[Link]moroyer writes in the Intel vPro Expert Centre blog, showing a great and interesting video of System Centre Configuration Manager extensibility to do power management on Intel vPro client devices directly through the ConfigMgr console. I knew it wouldn’t be long, given the fact that the MMC SDK is now usable and ConfigMgr is sooo extensible. However this is a fantastic example of how key vendors like Intel are going on to make the System Centre family so much more than Microsoft management products ever have been.

myITforum.com : Using Microsoft Virtual Machines With ConfigMgr 2007: “ConfigMgr 2007 allows you to use Microsoft Virtual machines for running your ConfigMgr environment on Intel based machines. You can use either Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 as the guest operating system.
All of the site server roles can run as virtual machines only with the Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 edition as the Microsoft Virtual PC version does not support all roles. Since the support is for Intel based machines you cannot use a Macintosh with either version.
It is also important to note here that you cannot manage the guest operating systems unless they are in an active state or running. It is also worth noting that if you are running a static image version of Virtual PC it cannot be inventoried or updated with the ConfigMgr client on it.

In addition to a slew of labs available for SMS 2003, there are a few others available for Configuration Manager 2007, plus three for Operations Manager 2007, two for Softgrid and one each for Capacity Planner and Essentials.
